Aamir Khan Explains Why Exhibitors Predicted Highest First Day Box Office Collections Of PK

The makers of PK have finally unwrapped the secret that they kept to them for so long. Talking about the collections that resulted off their ''keep it a secre'' strategy, Aamir Khan spills the beans on what was his prediction of the first day collections of PK and on what basis the trade people must have placed their predictions of the movie's opening day from 28 cr plus to 30 Crore.

In conversation with Koimoi, we asked that was it due to few single screens that shelved to screen the movie [over their disagreement on increasing the ticket prices], for movie not achieving the prediction figure placed by exhibitors, in spite of having more number of screens? To this Aamir said, ''The release of the film is as wide as any other film. Well, I think, the number of screens is not 5,200, but its on par with last 5 big films released. Because there are that many screens that a big film can open in, and I think most of the big films are covering all the screens possible to open in. If the trade expected the film to do first day at Rs. 30 crore, then I think that number was largely because of Dhoom3. You have to realise that apart from lot of big films releasing on a holiday period, like, 15th August, 26th January, Eid, Diwali; it gives a good start to the film and a good first day collections; Dhoom-3 released on a regular Friday and went on to collect highest first day including holiday films at Rs. 36.4 crore. So, PK, not being an action film, not being a franchise film, it has had a good number on the opening day. Actually I had in my head thought that the film will do around Rs.25 crore, I don’t know how the other trade people thought. But, even 25 is the highest number for a regular Friday. PK is not a single screen kind of film. Single screen audience love and prefer action more. So 26 crore plus is a good number and it has only climbed from 30. Plus on Saturday and 38.4 on Sunday, which is bigger than Dhoom-3's Sunday.''

The actor did not speak about the other side of movie not being released at few single screens and said that it’s the distributors call.

Mr. Perfectionist, was all tight lipped over his next project. Seems after PK, Aamir is quite liking the ''keep it secret'' strategy, well if the secret will give a surprise like PK then its worth the wait.
