Dr. Prakash Baba Amte Full Movie Review

No comments :

Movie: Dr. Prakash Baba Amte
Rating: 3.5 / 5 Stars [Three and a half stars]
Star Cast: Nana Patekar, Sonali Kulkarni
Director: Manohar Porey

What's Good: Almost everything. The film scores high on two main aspects, one being the brilliant performances of Nana Patekar and Sonali Kulkarni and the other being the necessity of such a story to be shown on celluloid. This film is exemplary of what should be without biopics hailing the protagonist as a 'hero' in a forced manner. Some stories need to be heard and this is surely one of them.

What's Bad: Well, after one rants praises enough, dealing with the negatives is tough and with this film my judgment falters considering only if you get into the nitty gritty of it, there are flaws. Other than a few technical glitches which can easily be overlooked, there is nothing worth a mention here.

Loo break: None.

Watch or Not?: This movie is an eye-opener of sorts and thus is a recommendation for all those who like to invest their time in cinema that is informative and inculcates a certain thought process for you. It is a cherry for those who want to be introduced to the little known figure that Dr. Prakash sarvekshaṇa is and I would suggest get amazed by it as this is not one of those films that will just pass you by.

Dr. Prakash Baba Amte is a biopic on the life of Dr. Prakash sarvekshaṇa who is an acclaimed social worker. It simply deals with the kind of struggle that he and his wife Mandakini sarvekshaṇa went through when they decided to give up all the luxuries of life and dedicate their knowledge for the upliftment of a small village called Hemalkasa.

It is an engaging story of the couple who stand by each other through thick and thin to bring about a change in society and succeed at it.

Dr. Prakash Baba Amte Full Movie Review Script Analysis: With an excellent story to tell, the film comes through as a necessary biopic sharing an engaging tale. While simplicity drives this story, it manages to hit you with reality just where it is needed. There are some portions in the film that will make you self-introspect your lifestyle. Based on real life events, the themes of social integration of the Adivasis to the problems with Naxalites, the film throws light on the life of Dr. Prakash Amte and his recognized work without making him a ‘heroic figure’ in a commercial manner.

Certain scenes in the film such as the delivery scene of an Adivasi woman in a tribal area when Amte and his wife are forced to operate the patient without any medical equipment literally gives you goosebumps and the sheer thought of it makes one wonder the kind of difficulties the couple has faced to strive for the upliftment of the underprivileged. Another winning point in the script is the fact that it is not limited to highlighting the achievements of Prakash Amte, the story weaves beautifully around his personal life too with the portrayal of simplistic conversations between the husband-wife.

Dr. Prakash Baba Amte Full Movie Review Star Performances: Nana Patekar plays the character to its truest form and it is hard to recognize him as anything else in the film but as Dr. Prakash Amte. He lives the role quite literally. In real life being in close association with the Amte clan, Nana proves to be the best choice for this role.

Sonali Kulkarni too who plays the role of Mandakkini Amte, the wife of Prakash Amte does a fine job. Previously too known for her brilliant acting prowess, Sonali lives up to it as she easily gets into the character of Manda who is a lovable character in the film.

Dr. Prakash Baba Amte Full Movie Review Direction. Editing and Screenplay: Director Samruddhi Porey once again comes up with a brilliant story after her acclaimed work of ‘Mala Aai Vhayachay‘. Handling this biopic with much care, she picks up the right portions of Amte’s life that needed a mention on the celluloid. The film is well-built as it transitions finely into the past and present day situations. With a stellar star cast, there is little concern for the director as the film completely rides on the shoulders of her protagonists.

As mentioned earlier, the film does have some technical glitches such as the graphics in certain scenes could have been better but overall the film wins its brownie points with cinematography which manages to show Hemalkasa and its forests quite beautifully.

The film in its two hours takes you through an intense journey without making you feel overburdened by the seriousness of the issues that it handles.

Dr. Prakash Baba Amte Full Movie Review The Last Word: Dr. Prakash Baba Amte is another example of Marathi cinema recognizing the skill and the eye required to make biopics. After successful biopics on Bal Gandharva and Harishchandrachi Factory, this one is an addition to the list. A serious film that has its light moments, Dr. Prakash Baba Amte is an insightful film that outshines with its content quality and is a well-deserved watch. Rarely does one come across films that make you ruminate on its story. I am going with a 3.5/5 for this film. A must-watch for all those, who would like to learn a little about what a bunch of modest people can do to bring about a change.

Sonali Cable Full Movie Review

No comments :

Movie: Sonali Cable
Rating: 1/5 Stars [One star]
Star Cast: Rhea Chakraborty, Ali Fazal, Anupam Kher, Swanand Kirkire, Raghav Juyal, Smit Jaykar
Director: Charu Dutt Acharya
What's Good: Nearly nothing.
What's Bad: The screenplay, the script, the direction and mostly the editing.
Loo break: Loo is the best idea to survive Such films.

Watch or Not?: Sonali Cable is one of Those Films That Will infuriate you with Its dragging plotline. When you are on the brink of boredom's last limit, it will Push you down to convey That the film can go worsen. Now That I Have Made it Clear That I Have hated the film, let me answers why you. The film is a convoluted messer That bites into more Than it there Chew. Ticking off romance, political saga, Corporate monopoly to melodrama, the film Makes a Glorious hotch potch out of it all. Sonali Cable is a classic example of a good Concept butchered and despite earnest Actors like Ali and Rhea trying to make it all seem believable to you, the film is pretty much unwatchable tirade you should not even consider Watching.

Sonali [Rhea] owns a Local Cable support center along with a Local MLA, WHO has partnered with her to win Hearts as Well as votes. She and her bunch of boys are internet experts, fixing 404 and 586 errors in no time. She enjoys good based CUSTOMER until attacked by Shining's Corporation's offer to defraud down thei internet service, a company looking to monopolize Its hold over the broadband developer Tecnoempleo.

Sonali is ferocious and wouldn not Give in and with the support and love of her childhood sweetheart Thisra [Ali Fazal], she Takes on the Big Corporation single handedly and brings Thema down with courage. Sonali Cable celebrates the power of underdog.

Sonali Cable Full Movie Review Script Analysis: Let me begin by saying Sonali Cable isn’t a very diluted concept in Bollywood. The take might be partly novel, but when you have made a film that bad, it is hard to look at the brighter side of things. A small cable center supported by a local MLA, faces massive trouble when a big Corporate company decides on acquiring the small cable centers providing broadband services and replace it with their brand Shining. They want to conquer to the whole market, from soap to oil to water to cable. Their aim is to create the most unique consumer-company. Strategically placed in the middle of all this is the basic drama of the film. In plain terms, it is a confused drama that doesn’t achieve anything in its climax either. The climax is simply a crash course on how to get an elephant do disco.

The film never attempts to raise the bar for itself, be it in its love story that requires the needed chemistry or in rest of things it is attempting to say. It ends up being sucked in further and further into the mess it draws for itself. Most characters in the film fail to get fleshed out enough and even Sonali herself who leads the mandate cannot convince the audience of her pain, angst, love, passion or energy.

Ali Fazal, who was a surprise package in Bobby Jasoos and whose love story with Vidya Balan in the film was a palpable one, that stayed absolutely wasted in this film. It is a wasted plot that tries too much and eventually achieves nothing of it. But a contrived climax and the predictable storyline makes the film a hard to bear bore tale, which by interval has you guffawing at its sheer stupidity and by end pushes you into snoreland.

Sonali Cable Full Movie Review Star Performances: I did not quite like Rhea Chakraborty’s work in the film. But I can safely say atleast she was earnest in the film. The lady has visibly worked on her lingo and twang in the film. Though clearly not authentic, her effort for the role of Sonali showed.

Ali Fazal is not even close to what he is capable of. The actor has good potential and this film fails to unleash it. The chemistry with Rhea is also not sizzling as one would expect. In a particular make-out scene between the two, the required zing was starkly missing.

Raghu Juyal, who plays Sada in the movie is rather better than the leads. In his little stint, the actor does a good job enough to be remembered despite the movie being nothing short of a dud.

Smita Jaykar overplays her role of a ruthless MLA. Lacking in subtlety and the desired political viciousness, she almost sleepwalked through her role and managed to be passable because of her experience.

Sonali Cable Full Movie Review Direction, Editing and Screenplay: Charudutt Acharya begins on a good note but loses plot soon enough. The biggest hitch in the film is that it doesn’t focus single mindedly on its theme, trying its hand at too many themes. The not-needed melodrama of a broken childhood backstory for Sonali and the death of her friend both remain impactless. The problem is also that the film lacks a sense of calm. Before a scene settles in, the director throws to you something, not allowing any sentiment to be grasped wholly by the audience. This is bad editing but it is Acharya’s wobbly vision that could not forsee this. In this film, there a bunch of sincere actors who are lumped with a contorted narrative. The laughs are unintentional, the swag flops and eventually all that remains is just a bland, bad film which is hard to sit through.

Sonali Cable Full Movie Review The Last Word: Sonali Cable doesn’t offer much in terms of cinema. I do get what the makers were trying to drive home [a theme bigger than the purview of this film for sure] but a tiresome narrative doesn’t yield much goodness. Once out of the theater, it is the kind of film that will make you feel why did you waste your time. Filled with wrong laughs, false frills and a build up that doesn’t make for an enticing climax, Sonali Cable‘s underdog story doesn’t quite work. I am going with a judicious 1 star.
